Jupyter notebook enables writing code with instructions in the same file, which is very convenient for preparing teaching materials. However, by using the default installation on Windows it requires typing commands in command window to start the server first.
To enable double-clicking opening on .ipynb files, the following command can be run using administrator privileges:
assoc .whl=jupyter& ftype jupyter=cmd.exe /c jupyter-notebook "%1"
Or, save the following command to a set_ipynb_setting.bat first, then right-click and select 'run as administrator' to do that automatically:
assoc .whl=jupyter& ftype jupyter=cmd /c jupyter-notebook "%%1"
All you have to make sure is that the folder that contains jupyter-notebook.exe has been added to your path system environment variable. (For me, it's C:\Program Files\Python37\Scripts)
